What you Need to Know
Wide Belt Sanding

About Our Wide Belt Sander
We have a 37" Powermatic Wide Belt Sander that has a max capacity of 36" project width.
About Your Project
We accept customer projects, regardless of whether the lumber was purchased from Capital Hardwood or not. Any project with large amounts of epoxy (i.e. "river table") may be subject to a fee for the value of the belt ($60 est.) due to increased wear/"gumming".
How the Service Works
You are welcome to simply stop in with your project and we will add you to the queue. When you arrive, we will inspect your piece and give you our best guess for cost and if we see any potential concerns in sanding your piece. We will provide you a printed or emailed Estimate. We do not sand projects while you wait. We do our best to turn around projects in under 48 hours.
How Much Does it Cost
We charge $3/minute of machine time. This includes our labor and the machine's rate. Our minimum charge is $30, or 10 minutes of machine time.
Factors that can effect the amount of time includes variance in glue line height, flatness of piece, an existing finish, size of piece, removing large amounts of material to accomplish a thickness specification, and any belt grit changes.
Small projects such as restoring a cutting board surface can take less than 10 minutes and therefore $30. Larger projects like tapletop panels can take up to 30 -45 minutes depending the factors previously mentioned. Slabs can also be extremely variable depending on the quality of the initial flattening. We may need to use a sled to attempt to flatten a face before proceeding to finer grits.
We will communicate any situations where the labor will drastically exceed the initial estimate.
Anything We Won't Sand?
We reserve the right to reject any job for any reason. We will not sand reclaimed lumber, pine species, or structurally unsound lumber.
